Dental implants are a permanent and appealing solution to replace missing or extracted teeth. The benefit of implants over other alternatives like bridges is that no additional teeth need to be altered to place the new tooth.
Following a consult to determine if you are a good candidate for implants, the entire implant process is performed over the course of a few months. The first part of the process is to install the implant itself, where a titanium root replacement is placed into the jaw bone. Multiple implants can be placed at once if necessary. The implant must be allowed about 3-6 months to heal, and during this time bone will form around the implant in a process called osseointegration. We recommend you see a specialist (periodontist or oral surgeon) for the surgical placement of your implant. We can refer you to a highly-skilled specialist.
The second phase of treatment can be completely performed at our office. After the implant has healed and is integrated into the surrounding bone, it is time to place an abutment and crown on the implant. Once the crown is fabricated, you can enjoy your new tooth!
